Therese Pierre-Louis Obituary

Therese Pierre-Louis, 78, of Columbia, Maryland, passed away on August 26, 2024 after a stroke and hospitalization.

Therese was born on September 4, 1945 to Benilus Pierre-Louis and Terselie Jean-Phillippe in Fond-Melon, Haiti. Therese grew up in the nearby city of Jacmel, Haiti and spent most of her young adult life in Port-au-Prince, Haiti until immigrating to the United States in 1975. For the next 59 years, Therese worked as a nanny helping raise children from several families. She formed strong bonds with each child and usually refer to them as “my kids.” She earned a GED certificate and was a certified Maryland childcare provider.

In 1993, Therese adopted two nieces and one nephew from Haiti. She provided for their needs in Haiti and brought them to live in Columbia, Maryland in 2004. Therese was also the godmother of Nephthalee Tefera, of Silver Spring, Maryland. During her lifetime she was generous to family and friends sacrificially sharing her resources to meet their needs.

Therese faithfully attended Harvester Baptist Church in Ellicott City, Maryland from 2000 until the time of her death. She served in the church nursery and at special events including Vacation Bible School and the Easter Egg Hunt.

Therese leaves a legacy of unwavering faith in Jesus, generosity, confidence, and strength. She felt a deep concern for the spiritual lives of her immediate and extended family, faithfully sharing the gospel with them. Therese was fortunate to see many of them come to Christ in her lifetime. While hospitalized, she shared her faith with hospital staff testifying of God’s goodness in the midst of her suffering. She lived out her faith by remaining involved in the lives of many family and friends, trusting God and giving her resources to meet their needs.

She is survived by immediate family members Yvonne, Smith and Boaz Labrousse; Fernande, Jonathan and Anna Aram; brothers Magloire Pierre-Louis and Volny Pierre-Louis; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Benilus Pierre-Louis (father), Terselie Jean-Philippe (mother), Bresienne Pierre-Louis (sister), Seneque Pierre-Louis (brother), Esther Pierre-Louis (sister).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Harvester Baptist Church and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
