On January 30, 2020, Valerie Jean Marshall of Halethorpe, MD, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and angel surrounded by her loving family, passed away from complications of dementia while in home hospice care. She was 60 years old.
Valerie was born in Baltimore, MD on September 4, 1959 to Eugene Robert Marshall, Sr. and Edith Marie Marshall. Valerie was the last child born into the Marshall family, with four siblings awaiting her arrival. From the moment she was born, Valerie and her family faced and conquered many challenges; she was born with Down syndrome – but that didn’t stop her! At the age of four, Valerie started attending the Marley Glen Special School in Glen Burnie, MD. She continued to learn, flourish and grow while in school and successfully graduated from Marley Glen in the spring of 1980. Valerie was employed by the Providence Center Pottery Studio in Arnold, Maryland. She began working in the studio in 1999 and retired in 2015. When Valerie put her mind and energy into it, she made beautiful pottery, but she really enjoyed cleaning the tools and windows of the studio!
Valerie had a wonderful life. She traveled near and far. Valerie has been to almost every state on the East Coast, Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, Portland Oregon and Disney World in Florida. She traveled to Grand Cayman Island and went on several cruises – one to Alaska!!
Valerie loved Mickey Mouse, Princesses, bowling, DANCING, riding roller coasters, singing and listening to Christmas music – all year long! She loved children and animals and they equally loved her. Valerie is deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents Eugene (1991) and Edith (1979). Valerie is survived by her step-mother, Catherine Marshall, and three sisters and one brother: Edith (Richard) Budd, Eugene (Deborah) Marshall, Jr., Anna (Kelly) Evans and Bridget (Ronald) Horne. She is survived also by loving nieces, grand-nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, step-brothers and step-sisters and friends.
