Obituary

Veronica Kathleen Hines, known affectionately as Ronnie, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2023, in her beloved hometown of Baltimore, MD.

Born on December 29, 1941, to the late John and Ida Comegna, Ronnie was a beacon of love, generosity, and selflessness. Her devotion to family, friends, and community was unmatched, and her warm presence will be greatly missed.

Raised in Edmonson Village, Ronnie attended St. Bernadine's Church and School, later graduating from Western High School in 1959. It was during these formative years that she met her future husband, Chuck. Their love story spanned over six decades, marked by 55 years of devoted marriage celebrated this past April. Their bond, strengthened by a shared love of music and dance, was an inspiring testament to their unwavering commitment to each other.

Ronnie was a beloved mother to her two daughters, Kathy Carey (Kevin) and Kelly Gibson (Chris), and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren, Kyle, Adam, Chloe, Josh, and Hannah. Her love for her family knew no bounds, extending to her brother Skip Comegna (Janet), sister JoAnn Gallizzo (Tommy), Chuck’s three brothers Doug, Ken and Russ and the friends of her children, to whom she was like a second mother.

Throughout her life, Ronnie was deeply involved in her daughters' lives, from supporting their education at St. Agnes and Ascension School to cheering them on at all of their sporting endeavors. She volunteered  endlessly in the Arbutus Girls Athletic Association (AGAA) and was a permanent fixture at Wynnewood Pool. Whether she was keeping score at their games, working the concession stand, or simply offering words of encouragement, Ronnie was their biggest cheerleader. She was an angel on the shoulders of many, her love and support leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Ronnie's love for life extended beyond her family and friends. She had a passion for travel, enjoying road trips with Chuck, cruises, and visits to Disney World with her grandchildren. Her love for Ocean City and Deep Creek were well known, as were her Wednesday night card and domino games with her girlfriends. She was a fixture at teen center dances and Van Dyke's dances, her love for music and dance a lifelong bond with Chuck.

In remembering Ronnie, we celebrate a woman whose love, generosity, and selflessness were the foundation of her life. Her devotion to her family, friends, and community was a testament to her beautiful spirit. Ronnie's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched, her memory a beacon of love and support.

Ronnie is survived by her devoted husband, Chuck Hines, her loving daughters Kathy Carey (Kevin) and Kelly Gibson (Chris), her grandchildren Kyle, Adam, Chloe, Josh, and Hannah, her brother Skip Comegna (Janet), and her sister JoAnn Gallizzo (Tommy).

She will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the enduring power of love, generosity, and selflessness.
