Waldo Theodore Renich, 95, husband of Leta Ruth Renich, died peacefully on Monday morning, September 15, 2025 at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center, Columbia, MD.
Waldo was born on January 26, 1930 to Edward Alexander and Anna Andres Renich in Newton, KS. Waldo graduated from Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas in 1951, majoring in Chemistry and Physics. He spent the next two years at the University of Kansas, studying first Chemistry, then Math. His graduate studies were cut short by a two year stint in the US Army.
He wed Leta Ruth Larrew on December 26, 1952, while still in the Army. They have 5 children, Sheryl, Donald, Marvin, Richard and Steven.
Waldo retired in 1996 after 41 years with the Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University, where he was a mathematician until his interest in computers dominated his career. At various times he was a research scientist (ramjet fuels), software developer, systems programmer, managed a help desk, and taught in the Computer Science program of the Engineering School at Hopkins.
He was active as a Boy Scout leader for many years. He enjoyed camping both with scouts and family.
Waldo's hobbies included family genealogy, maintaining the family website, stamp collecting and model railroading.
Waldo is survived by Leta, his wife of 72 years, Hazel Renich, wife of brother Ed Renich; children Sheryl, Marvin and wife Michaela, Richard and wife Kellie, Steven and wife Marie; and 11 grandchildren. Waldo is predeceased by 10 older siblings and oldest son Donald.
