With profound sadness and hearts full of gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the family of William “Bill” Law announces his peaceful passing after a battle of metastatic bladder and brain cancer on March 28, 2026, at the age of sixty-four. Bill was born on October 7, 1961, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to William N. and Regina M. Law and lived to be a lifelong resident of Ellicott City. Bill was a man of quiet strength, strong work ethic, boundless creativity, generous spirit, and love for family and community, and unparalleled generosity. He touched many lives with his wisdom, humor, and an unwavering spirit of perseverance and left this world better than he found it.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant, carrying pride, discipline, and integrity into every part of his military life. Following his military career, he worked in various roles in disaster recovery and property restoration provider for individuals, businesses, and communities impacted by disasters and other property loss. Bill grew up with a deep appreciation for the beauty of raw materials and the satisfaction of a job well done. He turned this passion into a lifelong pursuit as a master craftsman, though he would likely tell you he was "just building things." Whether restoring or rebuilding homes, businesses, or custom remodeling, repairing a cherished heirloom, or creating custom woodwork, he approached his craft with precision, patience, and love.
He pursued his entrepreneurial spirit as the owner of Law Built Construction, a successful design and remodeling company where he took immense pride in his work and craftsmanship. He was known for bringing a personal touch to every project, treating every rebuild with the same care he gave his own home. Later, he returned to work for the Ruppert family, having worked for Ruppert Brothers Construction. His extensive experience in the construction industry served him well in his role in upholding the Ruppert image. His dedication to volunteering on Trinity School Board of Trustees was a testament to his tireless spirit, always giving his time and skills.
Yet, his greatest masterpieces were not made of wood or metal; they were the relationships he built. Bill was the definition of a gentle giant, a hero to his family, and a selfless friend to his community. He was the first person to arrive with tools in hand when a friend needed help, and the last to leave even after a job was finished.
He was the devoted husband of Barbara Law for 43 years, sharing a love built on respect, quiet partnership; rooted in faith and mutual admiration. As a father, he taught his son that kindness is a strength, hard work is a joy, and that a truly successful life is one that serves others.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—traveling, gardening, design and custom building, boating, fishing for “Walter,” nature walks with his much-loved Camden and Sundays cheering on his favorite Philadelphia Eagles. He especially cherished time spent with family and friends, always bringing laughter with his quick wit and easy smile.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his son, Nicholas A. Law; and his siblings, Linda Scavello (Mike) of King of Prussia, PA, June McClernon (Joe) of Yardley, PA, Barbara Sulon (Bill) of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Jason Law, Bristol, PA. and eighteen loving nephews and nieces and twenty great nephew and nieces.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William N. Law and Regina M. (Minnichbach) Law; sister, Mary Ann Cimorelli; and brother Joseph Law.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 4795 Ilchester Road, Ellicott City on Friday, April 17th, with Father Mike Tripett officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations continuing his legacy of tireless service to others: Trinity School, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Ohio Mission Advancement Office,or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
“He did not build for fame or fortune; he built for the joy of creating and the love of serving.”
