Yoko Zarra

YOKO ZARRA (AGE 98)

On 11 June 2024 Yoko Zarra of Columbia, MD passed away in the hospital. Cause of death was blood and bone infections complicated by diabetes. Yoko was born on 15 January 1926 in Tokyo, Japan. She graduated high school during World War II. After the war she was hired by the US military to work at Tachikawa Air Base as a typist clerk. In 1947 she met Sgt. Angelo Zarra who worked in the same office. At the time US military personnel were not authorized to marry Japanese citizens. So when this ban was finally lifted they were married in 1951. They were married until Angelo’s death in 2018 and had one child, Michael  in 1956. Yoko was a full time homemaker after her marriage and enjoyed sewing, making Japanese food, bingo and reading/watching murder mysteries. She is survived by her son, Michael Zarra of Columbia, MD. Funeral services will be at Arlington National Cemetery, date to be announced.
