Yolanda “Sandy” Poloso, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Columbia, Maryland, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Born on September 9, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York, Sandy lived a life centered on family, compassion, and a spirited dedication to the things she loved most.
Sandy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Anthony “Tony” Poloso. She is survived by her children, Neil Poloso and Toni Salter; and her cherished grandchildren, Evan and Madeline Salter, and Zachary and Henry Poloso. Her family was the heart of her world, and she found her greatest joy in spending time with them—especially in cheering on her grandchildren at their sports games and musical performances.
A graduate of high school, Sandy devoted much of her life to being a homemaker and stay-at-home mother, creating a lively and loving home filled with energy, laughter, and strong values. She also shared her nurturing spirit as a preschool teacher for several years, where she touched the lives of many young children with care and enthusiasm.
Sandy had a deep love for reading and writing, often finding joy in the written word. She was also passionately dedicated to rescuing cats, opening her home and heart to many over the years. A true fan of Bon Jovi, Sandy loved their music and the energy it brought into her home. She was also an early “binge watcher,” carefully recording and organizing her favorite shows tape-to-tape in the 1980s—preserving moments she loved long before the digital age made it easy. In addition, Sandy kept meticulous records and lovingly chronicled her family’s life through photographs, documents, and home videos, creating a lasting archive of memories that will be treasured for generations.
Known for her strong voice and passionate beliefs, Sandy never hesitated to stand up for what she felt was right, and her presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Sandy will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, her unmistakable spirit, and her unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion and conviction that will live on in all who knew and loved her.
