Curious about Mr. Biedron, I googled his name and was saddened to find this page. I was his student at Melbourne High in Russian Lit and Russian history in '67 and '68 and also a student of Ms. Bauer's in Algebra II. They were two exceptional and memorable teachers and I'll be forever grateful to Mr. Biedron for kindling a curiosity about Russian culture that persists to this day. I'm so sorry to learn this news. I remember him fondly and with respect.

I just learned of Mr. Biedron’s passing a little over a year ago. I was privileged to be in his English class at Melbourne High School in Florida my senior year, 1967. In those days, he couldn’t have been teaching for more than two or three years. Ms. Biedron, then Ms. Bauer, was also on the Mel Hi faculty that year. I don’t know if this post will reach anyone in his family, but I – like countless other former students, no doubt – would like them to know that, over fifty years later, he is remembered with profound respect, admiration and affection. My sincere condolences.

Jim was one of the special people who touched many lives at B-CC. Staff and students loved and admired him. He created worlds for students to learn in and provided staff with an example of the importance of creativity as he modeled what an outstanding teacher should be. I admired him for his principles, his character, and an immense intellect. In a department that exuded excellence he stood out as an example for all of us. Jim Biedron will forever be in the hearts and minds of those who knew him and we will be better people for the experience. Jim you will be missed!

He was such a wonderful teacher (in a school that had many). I first took AP European History with Mr Biedron in 11th grade, and the extracts of various readings of European thought is really what started me on my study of European philosophy and political thought, which I now teach at a UK university. I also took Russian History, where he allowed me to express my inner stand-up comedian as the class's village idiot (and to let me get away with a lot in that role). He signed my yearbook in Russian -- a bit unfair, because I didn't take the language course with him -- but a friend translated it for me: he wrote, "you think you know everything, but you're a good student anyway." RIP.

Mr. Biedron was the kind of teacher all parents dream of their kids having. My daughter, Catherine Fraas, BCC 03 and son Mitch Fraas BCC 00 were captains of the It's Academic team with him. He was unfailingly patient, kind and wise, with a dry sense of humor. Catherine also had him for Russian and was involved in the Russian exchange in 2001. That was an experience she holds in her heart. We kept in touch through Christmas cards and he always wrote that he was glad to hear news of any of his students from BCC. I posted a few pictures. May perpetual light shine upon him and may his family be comforted in their grief.

I'm devastated. Mr. Biedron changed my life. At a time when I was a very very hard kid to reach, he reached me. He inspired me. He put up with me - even when I "assassinated" a noble with a squirt gun in the middle of his class (which got me sent to the "Siberia" closet).

I took all his classes. I went on the second Moscow School 45 exchange. In college I majored in Russian Studies. When my mother died suddenly while I was in college, Mr. Biedron was the only one of my teachers to come sit shiva with my family.

After college, I went on to study and work in Russia a half-dozen more times. I'm now a screenwriter, and last year wrote a TV show about Catherine the Great. I was so looking forward to him seeing it.

Just before he retired from B-CC, I went back to see him. I told him of his influence on me. I thanked him for changing my life. He smiled and said, "I'm not taking the blame for that."
But I could tell he was happy for me, and maybe even a little proud of me.

Rest in peace, Mr. Biedron. You live on in my heart.

The death of a loved one is hard to bear. May your family draw strength and comfort from God's promise at Isaiah 41:10: “Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you, I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.” Please accept my heartfelt condolence for your loss; you will truly be missed.
